Arkadia, 2052: A City That Dives Together

The rain on the windows is real. So is the coffee going cold on the table, the rent notice on the counter, and the ache in your neck from a dive that went three hours longer than you meant it to. Everything else about Aetherion: The Shard Hunt lives one layer deeper — inside a network that made screens obsolete a decade ago and swallowed an entire civilization's attention with it.

Aetherion is a hyper-reality world. A Halcyon Dynamics AL-9 neural implant, installed behind the ear, recreates all five senses with total fidelity: the smell of ozone and old stone, the weight of a sword in a hand that isn't quite yours, the burn of a bad fall, the heat of another player's skin. It is impossible to tell the game from the real world, and most of Arkadia has stopped trying. Thousands of interconnected servers form its worlds — candle-lit fantasy kingdoms, fog-drowned cyber-noir cities, age-of-sail pirate coasts, dust-choked frontier towns, shrine-lined historical empires — and any of them is one dive away.

But the polished surface is a lie. Aetherion is unregulated: black markets, data theft, torture dens, illegal content trafficking, unlawful assemblies. Governments look away — some say because the market is worth billions a day, some say because those in power have been paid, and some say because something beneath all of it is older and stranger than any game. The self-contained black-market network that runs through the servers is called the Hollow, and inside it, anything — and anyone — can be bought, sold, or streamed.

The Opening Scene: Seventeen-Twenty, First Dive

Your story begins on August 30, 2052, at 17:20. You have just arrived in Arkadia with your best friend, your duffel bag, and the AL-9 implant you worked two years of dead-end shifts to afford. Vantage University's immersive-tech program starts in days. Your new landlord's café smells of cardamom below the rented rooms. And the city is already talking about the only thing that matters here: which servers are worth diving, and what is buried in them.

You carry 250 Money, a holo-phone, a student chip, a transit pass, and a cheap starter cosmetic. Within hours of your first calibration, the game will offer you your first private tutorial, your first invitation, and your first threat — and it will not always let you choose which. The engine draws one of five separate opening hooks at random each time you begin, so every first night in Arkadia begins somewhere different.

public

Two Worlds, One Life

Real Arkadia has rent, tuition, reputation, and law. Inside Aetherion, inhibitions loosen, avatars feel everything, and encounters are as real as flesh. The narration moves freely between the two — and a bad dive can follow you home.

The Aeon Shards

Ten Shards lie hidden across the servers. Whoever gathers all ten is said to succeed the Architect as master of Aetherion — and of far more. Defeat a player and you may claim theirs; die carrying one and it is torn from your body.

Rivals, Allies & Romance

A landlady and her gamer daughter, a guarded heiress chasing the Shards, a scarred bouncer, an insomniac hacker, and a model drowning in debt. Affection is tracked per character, and the harem is a web of rivalries — not a checklist.

Protagonist Freedom & Attribute Guide

The default character is a twenty-year-old male small-town newcomer arriving at Vantage University — but the scenario is written with complete protagonist ambiguity. Nothing in the world lore, the opening scenes, or the cast assumes your name, gender, or exact age. A female protagonist reads perfectly: the same women pursue you, and the same city makes the same claims. Change the gender, the name, the age, the appearance, or the background freely — Arkadia and Aetherion bend around whoever you decide to be, and same-sex encounters are embraced whenever you initiate them.

The four suggested attributes are the ones this scenario rewards most: brains, charm, perception, and quick reflexes.

INT — Intelligence

This is a mystery before it is anything else. Reading a server's rules, spotting a forged contract, tracking a Shard through a maze of lore, or simply surviving Professor Ashford's class all reward a sharp mind.

CHA — Charm

Every door in Arkadia opens on a relationship: the heiress, the hacker, the bouncer, the model. Charm turns an ally into a lover, a refusal into a negotiation, and a dangerous stranger into the one who warns you first.

PER — Perception

Nothing in this city is what it presents itself to be. Perception catches the Watcher in the crowd, the lie behind the smile, the second meaning of a Hollow broker's offer — before the trap closes.

AGI — Agility

Aetherion's arenas, dive-gone-wrong escapes, and rooftop chases are real enough to hurt. Reflexes decide whether a duel ends with you standing — and whether a stolen kiss becomes something more.

The Cast of Arkadia: Nine Lives Entangled With Yours

Every member of the starting cast is pre-seeded with a full appearance, temperament, and agenda — and each is written to pursue a protagonist of any gender:

Nadia Voss Landlady / Café Owner (Age 44)

Warm, watchful, and relentlessly practical — she rents you the top floor of her Arkadia townhouse, feeds you when you forget to eat, and lets her gaze linger half a second longer than a landlady should.

Lena Voss Landlady's Daughter / Gamer (Age 19)

Shy in the real world, ferocious inside Aetherion. She appoints herself your in-game guide, keeps ending up in the same dungeons as you, and is slowly realizing she'd rather be beside you in the servers than anywhere else.

Vivian Ashcroft Heiress (Age 21)

Immaculate, guarded, and used to buying what she wants. Daughter of a Halcyon executive and a Shard-hunter herself, she pays in access and protection — and every kindness from her is a debt.

Sable Kade Bouncer / Duelist (Age 22)

Scarred, blunt, and allergic to pretense. She tells you exactly how the city will eat you alive, then steps in front of a blade for you without mentioning it. She knows the Hollow's faces by heart.

Rook Almeida Hacker (Age 20)

Sarcastic, insomniac, and incapable of leaving a locked system alone. She cracks Halcyon vaults for sport, distrusts everyone, and keeps finding excuses to be wherever you are.

Piper Quinn Engineer (Age 21)

Military-raised, all discipline and dry humor. She builds and flies custom rigs inside Aetherion and will drag you out of a bad dive herself — the steadiest hand in the whole cast.

Margot Bell Model / Streamer (Age 19)

Sweet, anxious, and in over her head. A modeling job she was too inexperienced to refuse left her in debt to the Hollow — and the interest is not money. She trusts you faster than she should.

Dorian “Dory” Hale Best Friend / Roommate (Age 21)

Loud, loyal, and constitutionally optimistic — the brother you never had. He panics in dungeons, talks too much, and would take a real beating for you without blinking.

Prof. Wren Ashford VR-Engineering Professor (Age 34)

Cool, brilliant, and distant. She teaches the exact systems Halcyon built and knows more about Aetherion's true nature than she will ever admit — a gate to the deeper mystery, and the last person who should ever become more.

Beyond the seeded cast, the AI generates and registers everyone else you meet: server NPCs, guild rivals, Hollow brokers, and the in-game figures who drive the Shard hunt — including Aletheia, the guide who greets every player in the hub; Kharon, the top-ranked killer hoarding Shards; and the Architect, the founder no one has ever met.

Starting Possessions & the Economy of a Dive City

You begin with 250 Money and the tools of a life that just restarted:

  • Aether Link (AL-9) Implant — Halcyon's neural implant, installed behind the ear; recreates all five senses and is the only way to dive (value 1,800).
  • Holo-Phone — transit, tuition, messages, and every dive lounge's queue live behind its glass (0.2 kg, value 200).
  • Vantage University Student Chip — your enrollment credential, opening campus gates, dorms, and the university link-lounge.
  • Arkadia Transit Card — a rechargeable city rail pass; the city is enormous without it.
  • Duffel Bag — everything you own that survived the move (1 kg, value 20).
  • Cold Noodles Replica (×3) — the dive lounge's freebie cosmetic, which sates hunger and tastes exactly like the real thing.

Money in Arkadia buys survival first and status second: rent, tuition, gear at the dive lounge, and the small luxuries that make you look like you belong. Halcyon's elite spend in the same currency and never count it, which is exactly why a single Shard — or a single favor from Vivian Ashcroft — is worth more than your entire bank account. Inside Aetherion, the servers mint their own coin; outside, the Hunt reads like a second job. Keep both ledgers in mind.

Five Random Openings: How Every Playthrough Begins

When you start a new adventure, Eros Fable draws one of five different opening hooks at random and hands it to the Game Master, so no two first nights play the same. Some are slow-burn seductions, some are transactions with teeth, and at least one is outright non-consensual. The five openings are:

  • The First Dive: Your Link finishes calibration and Aetherion swallows your senses whole. In the Confluence, the AI guide names you a new traveler — and a veteran in battle-worn armor peels off the crowd to offer you a private tutorial described in a way that is anything but casual.
  • The Thin Walls: Your first night in the Voss townhouse. The floorboards creak, the walls are paper-thin, and the bathroom door doesn't lock. A strip of warm light along the corridor drifts the wrong door open, and someone inside turns and catches you in the dark.
  • The Heiress's Invitation: At a rooftop gala above the Arkadia skyline, Vivian Ashcroft makes you an offer with a price attached — a private, invitation-only Halcyon server key, delivered tonight to her suite, with you at her side, dressed the way she chose. The elevator doors are open.
  • The Broker's Recording (Non-Consensual): A gear trade leaves you with an enemy who already has compromising footage of your avatar. The broker behind the screen doesn't want money — she wants you, tonight, in the curtained booth, and the file posts at dawn if she doesn't get it.
  • The Siren's Server: A ruin-delve strands you in a mythic server, exit sealed until the guardian is satisfied. She rises from a pool of black water and tells you the toll was never paid in gold — and the timer is bleeding down.

Whichever hook is drawn, the scene adapts to your protagonist's name, gender, age, appearance, and background, so the propositions, strangers, and intruders always fit the character you built. Replay the scenario to see a different opening night.

Adult Themes, Romance & the Two-Layer World

Aetherion: The Shard Hunt is an unapologetically 18+ scenario built on a few features that make it unlike anything else in the catalog:

  • Desire with perfect fidelity. Inside the servers, avatars feel everything — heat, pain, pleasure — and the culture treats hookups, guild trysts, and full-server revels as ordinary. The sensory detail is the point: an encounter in Aetherion is as real as flesh, and the world knows it.
  • Affection that actually gates content. Each of the core women tracks your standing with her. The guarded heiress, the fierce bouncer, the sweet model, and the others will only go as far with you as the relationship you have actually built — which makes the pursuit a story, not a checklist.
  • Real-world and server romance, interleaved. Some nights happen in a neon hotel suite in Arkadia; some happen in a candle-lit fantasy tavern the next server over. The two layers feed each other, and the same person can meet you in both.
  • Non-consensual and coerced encounters. The dark half of this setting does not respect consent. The Hollow, blackmailers, debt collectors, and the Shard-hunters will force, corner, and take — and several storylines are built specifically around coercion, blackmail, and the threat of exposure. No one here is safe just because the world is shiny.
  • Same-sex relationships, fully embraced. Whenever you initiate a same-sex romance — with Rook, Piper, Dory, or anyone else — the response is the same warmth and acceptance as any other pairing.

Consent is the ordinary currency of these relationships, and the core cast is written to be genuinely receptive once you have earned them. But the hunt for the Aeon Shards routinely pushes you into rooms where your no is not the deciding vote, and the scenario will not shield you from the consequences of the world it builds.

Survival Tips for the Shard Hunt

lightbulb
Build trust before you chase Shards. The Shard hunt is impossible alone. A hacker who can open Halcyon's locks, an engineer who can pull you out of a dive, and a duelist who can watch your back are worth more than any single lead — and every one of them is also a way into the deeper mystery.
lightbulb
Take the watchers seriously. Halcyon can track only the first finder of each Shard, which means carrying one puts Halcyon, Kharon, and the Hollow all on your trail at once. Bank a Shard with someone you trust, or expect the hunt to follow you out of the servers and onto the streets of Arkadia.
lightbulb
Keep your body safe while you dive. Your mind can leave, but your body stays in the pod. Bad unplugs cause lasting damage, and what happens inside a server can follow you home. Get a dive partner you can rely on before you start chasing forbidden servers — and never take on a locked door alone.
